The role of a Development Officer is to:
a) Advise National Associations and assist in the implementation of projects
which form part of the ITF Development Programme.
b) Evaluate and monitor the use of the funds and resources allocated to the National
Associations for various programmes and the success of these programmes.
c) Liaise with Regional Associations as appropriate.
What does a Development Officer do on a day-to-day basis?
ITF Development Officers regularly conduct consultations with National Associations.
A consultation would normally involve a complete review of a National Association's
activities, an analysis of the tennis situation in the country, observing tennis
programmes in action and advice on organisation, planning and programming, including
the following:
· Coaches Education: e.g. conducting Level I & Level II Coaches and Tutors Courses as well as helping National Associations implement a coaches certification programme of their own.
· Facilities: advising National Associations keen to establish their own national training centre or improve existing centres.
· Grassroots programmes: the implementation and monitoring of the ITF Junior Tennis Initiatives which includes ITF School Tennis Initiative (STI) , Performance Tennis Initiative (PTI) and Equipment distribution – a follow-up programme to the STI.
· Increase and improve competitive and training opportunities for their region by conducting training camps for the most promising junior players (and their coaches) and co-ordinating regional competitions (circuits) at the 13/14 and 18 & Under levels as well as prize money events at the adult level.
· Coach to ITF Teams: players who perform well at both junior circuits and camps are selected onto ITF Teams which travel to tournaments outside their region to give them their first taste of international competition.
· ITF rep for zonal ITF Team competitions e.g. Davis Cup, Fed Cup,
Junior Davis Cup and Junior Fed Cup.
Each Development Officer spent an average of 30 weeks on the road working
with National Associations, players and coaches in more than 152 countries to
develop the game.
