The Confederation of African Tennis (CAT), in collaboration with the International Tennis Federation (ITF), has confirmed seven players to participate in a series of tournaments in Harare, Zimbabwe. This tour will take place from July 22 to August 10, 2024.
The boys’ team includes, Edilson Rosa from Mozambique, John Bothma from South Africa and Peter Ogunsakin from Nigeria.
The girls’ team features Jahnie Van Zyl from South Africa, Zahara El-Zein from Zimbabwe, Kudzai Chapepa from Zimbabwe, and Morgan Jordaan from South Africa.
Coaching the boys' team will be Gwinyai Tongoona from Zimbabwe, while Roxanne Clarke from South Africa will coach the girls' team.
The team will arrive in Harare on July 21, 2024, to kick off their tour with a J60 tournament from July 22 to 27. Following this, they will participate in two J100 tournaments, the first from July 29 to August 3, and the second from August 5 to 10.
Tapiwa Masunga, ITF Development Officer for Southern Africa, emphasized the importance of this tour, saying, “The ITF/CAT Southern Africa 16U touring team has been an integral component of the regional performance programme, to provide opportunities for the 16U players from the sub-region to compete in ITF World Tennis Tour events and benefit from attaining ranking points. The tour provides players access to coaching and mentorship from some of the top coaches in the region, and they also engage with their fellow players, building camaraderie throughout the tour.’’
