Cameroon Earns Promotion to Billie Jean King Cup by Gainbridge Africa Group III

The Billie Jean King Cup by Gainbridge Africa Group V event was held from 14 to 19 July 2025 at the Kicukiro Ecology Tennis Club in Kigali, Rwanda. Twelve African nations took part in the competition, all aiming for the single promotion spot to Group III in 2026. The nations represented were Benin, Cameroon, Congo, Ethiopia, Lesotho, Mozambique, Rwanda, Senegal, Seychelles, Sudan, Tanzania, and Togo.

During the group stage, the teams were split into three pools of four. The top team from each group advanced to the promotional playoff.

In Group A, Cameroon topped the standings after winning all three of their matches: 3-0 against Lesotho, 3-0 against Mozambique, and 2-1 against Benin. Benin came second after recording two 3-0 wins over Lesotho and Mozambique. Lesotho finished third thanks to a 2-1 win over Mozambique, who placed fourth.

Group B was led by Togo, who claimed three dominant 3-0 victories over Tanzania, Seychelles, and Sudan. Tanzania followed in second place after edging Sudan and Seychelles 2-1. Sudan placed third with a 2-1 win over Seychelles, who finished fourth.

In Group C, host nation Rwanda finishined first after three wins: 3-0 over Ethiopia, 2-1 over Senegal, and 3-0 over Congo. Senegal came second with wins over Congo and Ethiopia, both 3-0. Ethiopia took third place after defeating Congo 3-0, who ended fourth in the group.

In the playoff stage, Cameroon secured promotion with two wins: 2-1 against Togo, followed by a 3-0 victory over Rwanda to clinch a well-deserved place in Africa Group III for 2026.

The final rankings placed Cameroon at the top of the table, with Togo in second and Rwanda in third. Benin finished fourth, followed by Senegal in fifth and Tanzania in sixth. Ethiopia came seventh, Lesotho eighth, Sudan ninth, Mozambique tenth, Seychelles eleventh, and Congo twelfth.
