The African boys’ and girls’ teams have arrived in Shymkent, Kazakhstan, to take part in the 2025 Intercontinental 12U Team Competition, running from 29 September to 4 October.
Organized by the Asian Tennis Federation in collaboration with the Kazakhstan Tennis Federation, the event brings together 12 teams: Africa (CAT), China, Kazakhstan, Hong Kong, Thailand, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, Chinese Taipei, Pakistan, Pacific Oceania, and COSAT.
Africa’s delegation is composed of six promising players who earned their places based on their continental rankings, zonal and subregional results, and the recommendations of African development officers.
The boys’ team—Pieter Muller Jacobs (South Africa), Indiatsi Maina Olembo (Kenya), and Med Aziz Ben Romdhane (Tunisia)—is led by captain Slim Abassi (Tunisia). The girls’ team—Wendy Modiba (South Africa), Dina Jaoid (Morocco), and Ruvarashe Kim Makunike (Zimbabwe)—is guided by captain Aliaa Fakhry (Egypt).
Following the draws, the boys’ team will compete in Group B against Thailand and Australia, while the girls’ team is in Group C with Chinese Taipei and Pacific Oceania.
Both CAT teams are exempted from the first day of matches and will face the winners of the initial group matches in their respective pools.
The Confederation of African Tennis extends its best wishes to both teams.
