The Confederation of African Tennis (CAT) proudly congratulates Tennis Kenya for winning the Silver Award at the 2025 ITF Advantage All Awards, a global recognition celebrating national associations that are leading the way in promoting gender equality across tennis.
The announcement was made by the International Tennis Federation (ITF), which each year acknowledges Member Nations making exceptional progress in advancing the ITF’s Gender Equality Strategy. Alongside Türkiye, winner of the Gold Award, and the United States and Croatia, who received the Bronze, Kenya stood out for its transformative work in empowering women in tennis officiating.
Through its groundbreaking officiating program, Tennis Kenya has created clear pathways for women to enter and thrive in officiating, combining mentorship, university engagement and policy reforms to increase the number of qualified female officials. Today, Kenya counts 15 ITF-registered women officials, the highest number in Africa, including three ITF-certified White Badge officials.
Kenyan officials have officiated at major international events such as Wimbledon, Roland Garros, the Davis Cup and the Billie Jean King Cup by Gainbridge, proudly representing Africa on the world stage.
“This recognition affirms what we have always believed — that opportunity changes everything,” said Wanjiru Mbugua-Karani, Secretary-General of Tennis Kenya. “Through this program, we are not just training officials; we are building careers, inspiring confidence, and opening doors for women to earn a living in tennis. Kenya’s achievement is not just a win for us; it is a win for Africa.”
Tennis Kenya President James Kenani added: “Equality grows when men use their power to empower.”
The Silver Award includes a US$4,000 grant from the ITF to further support and expand mentorship opportunities for women in tennis across Kenya and the region.
This distinction not only honours Tennis Kenya’s vision and leadership but also underscores Africa’s growing role in shaping a more inclusive and balanced tennis ecosystem worldwide.
