For the host nation, this week felt like the perfect culmination of a journey that began just a few short years ago. Since making their Davis Cup debut in 2022, the Burundian squad has rapidly transformed into a regional powerhouse, building an incredible 15-5 tie record over five years of competition. It is impossible to overlook the dedication of local heroes Guy Orly Iradukunda and Allan Gatoto, who have both represented the nation since day one, playing in 19 ties each. Stepping onto their home clay courts at the Entente Sportive de Bujumbura, the team fed off the energy of the local crowd to secure a historic promotion to the World Group II Play-offs.

The Battle for Promotion and Final Standings

When the dust settled on the clay, the round-robin competition proved to be an intense, top-heavy battle. The pool stage saw a tight contest at the top, with Senegal, Burundi, and Namibia all finishing with four wins and one loss.

Senegal topped the group, securing dominant 3-0 victories over Togo, Benin, and Côte d'Ivoire. They also defeated the hosts, Burundi, 2-1, with their only defeat being a 1-2 loss to Namibia. Senegal finished with an 11-4 match win-loss record, claiming 22 sets and 161 games throughout the week.

Burundi took second place, also boasting an 11-4 match record. They swept Togo and Côte d'Ivoire 3-0, and earned 2-1 victories against Namibia and Benin. Their sole loss of the week was a narrow 1-2 defeat to Senegal. Burundi concluded the event with 22 sets and 156 games won.

Namibia secured the final promotion spot by finishing third overall with 10 match wins. They defeated Togo, Benin, and Senegal by 2-1 margins, while sweeping Côte d'Ivoire 3-0. Their only loss was a 1-2 defeat to Burundi.

Benin finished fourth in the group with two vital tie victories, which ensured that they successfully maintained their team's status in Group III for another season. They managed 2-1 victories over both Togo and Côte d'Ivoire but fell 1-2 to Namibia, 0-3 to Senegal, and 1-2 to Burundi.

At the bottom of the table, Côte d'Ivoire and Togo finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the standings. Côte d’Ivoire managed to secure one tie win, while Togo faced a tough winless week. As a result, both nations will compete in Africa Group IV next year.
