CAT Participation at ATF 12&U Intercontinental Team Competition
Six players, comprising three boys and three girls, represented the Confederation of African Tennis (CAT) at the recently concluded ATF 12&U Intercontinental Team Competition in Shymkent, Kazakhstan.
The African girls delivered an impressive performance, battling their way into the semifinals of the competition, which brought together young tennis talents from different parts of the world.
Despite opening their campaign with a 0–3 defeat to China, the girls bounced back emphatically, recording a 3–0 victory over Pacific Oceania in their second group match to advance to the next stage.
They continued their impressive run with a convincing 2–0 win over Team COTECC to secure a place in the semifinals. However, their hopes of reaching the final were narrowly dashed following a 1–2 defeat to Team Australia.
The African girls subsequently finished fourth after losing 0–2 to China in the third-place match, rounding off an encouraging campaign for Team Africa.
Their male counterparts, meanwhile, were unable to advance beyond the group stage.
The boys began their campaign with a 1–2 loss to Chinese Taipei before suffering a 0–3 defeat to New Zealand. In the positional playoffs, they lost 1–2 to COSAT but recovered to secure a 2–0 victory over Pacific Oceania, finishing 11th overall.
Despite their early exit, the boys gained valuable international experience, further highlighting the potential of Africa’s emerging tennis talents.
At the awards presentation ceremony, CAT Vice Presidents presented commemorative plaques to representatives of the Asian Tennis Federation (ATF) and the Kazakhstan Tennis Federation (KTF) in recognition of their contributions to the successful organisation of the competition.
CAT congratulates the organisers, participating players and coaches on a successful tournament and expresses its appreciation to ATF and KTF for providing a platform for young players from across the world to compete, learn and develop through tennis. Beyond the fantastic organization and seamless delivery of the tournament, CAT extends its sincere gratitude for the exceptional hospitality offered to the players, coaches, and representatives throughout their stay, making the team feel welcome, supported, and truly at home.
