INDIVIDUAL TENNIS COMPETITION
EGYPT ABOVE THE LOT
Mohamed Safwat & Mayar Sherif Qualified to the Olympic
Games of Tokyo 2020

The Tennis competition of the 12th African Games in Rabat, which took place in the magnificent Tennis Club des Cheminots de Rabat, saw the participation of 63 men and 38 women representing 24 African countries.

The individual Singles and Doubles competition took place from August 23rd to 29th, while the teams’ competition took place on August 30th and 31st.

In individual competition, the Egyptian players won 3 Gold Medals leaving the 4th Gold Medal to Tunisians Mansouri & Dougaz in Men Doubles. Silver Medals went to South African Chanel Simmonds in Women's Singles, to Egyptian Karim Maamoun in Men's Singles, to Moroccans Lemine Ouahab & Adam Moundir in Men Doubles and to Egyptian Sandra Samir & Lamis Abdelaziz in Women Doubles. As for the Bronze Medals, they went to the following players according to the tables:


Men Singles: Aziz Dougaz – TUN & Adam Moundir – MAR
Women Singles: Sandra Samir – EGY & Lamis Abdelaziz – EGY
Men Doubles: Med Safwat & A. El Sellaly – EGY & K. Maamoun & Sh. Sabry – EGY

It’s important to note that Mr. Tarak Chérif, President of the Confederation of African Tennis (CAT) attended the individual Finals and honored with his presence the first Ceremony of medals
presentation that took place on August 29th 2019.

TEAMS’ COMPETITION
LAUREATES – MOROCCO IN MEN & EGYPT IN WOMEN

 

The last two days of the African Games were reserved for men and women teams’ competitions. The teams that participated in this competition were selected according to the best results recorded in singles, and it was recorded the participation of 4 teams in the men (Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia and Zimbabwe) and 4 teams in the women. (Egypt,Morocco, Nigeria and Kenya).

During the first day of this competition they played the ½ Finals:


Men:
Egypt Vs Zimbabwe – Egypt won 2/0
Morocco Vs Tunisia – Morocco won 2/0
Women:
Egypt Vs Kenya – Egypt won 2/0
Morocco Vs Nigeria – Morocco won 2/0

During the second day they played the Finals as well as for 3rd position.

In the men's event, the Moroccan team beat the Egyptian team by 2 wins to 1 after a decisive match in Doubles which saw a lot of “rebounding”. Before winning this match, the
Moroccans saved 3 match points. The 3rd position and the Bronze Medal went to the Tunisians who took over the Zimbabwe team also by 2 wins to 1 after a decisive match in Doubles.

On the women's side, the Egyptian team did not have much trouble beating the Moroccan women by 2/0, while for the Bronze medal; the Nigerians defeated the Kenyans by 2/0.
