CAT Press Release of 10th March 2021

To African National Associations Members of CAT

Subject: Major Events in Africa in 2021

The Tennis family Worldwide in general and in Africa in particular has been trying all possibilities to resume tennis activities, in respect with the specificities of the current pandemic situation that affects everyone, some more than others.

In Africa, the Confederation of African Tennis together with the ITF has been holding a number of meetings in order to produce a tentative calendar of events for this year 2021, which is attached to this message. Please note that the calendar is not final and can be subject to changes. In any case, concerned parties will be informed in due time.

It is still impossible to foresee what is going to happen in the few months to come in regard with the COVID-19 pandemic evolution, the CAT in common agreement with the ITF Development Department decided a priori to plan the organization of the various major African events to take place during the second half of the year 2021 (between July and November), such as  the African Junior Championships for all ages’ groups, zonal and final competitions for the 12 years and under and the tournaments of the African 14 & under circuit and its Masters to which is added the African Junior Teams’ Championships (AJTC) and CAN; as well as the various team competitions organized by the ITF: JDC, JBJKC, WJTF and the Europe / Africa zonal competitions of the Davis Cup and the Billie Jean King Cup.

In view of the fact that a very large number of events have been planned to take place over a fairly short period (5 months), and in order to limit the number of trips for young players, it was recommended to try as much as possible to combine organization of several events (same place and same date). This is how and as a first initiative, it was strongly recommended to organize exceptionally in 2021 the 16 & U African Championships and the 1st African 14 & U Championship during the same week and in the same site.Below is a table summarizing the proposed dates in order of priority for the various major junior events in 2021:
