The 51st Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Confederation of African Tennis (CAT) as well as diverse African meetings took place in Maputo, Mozambique from 2nd to 3rd November 2024, bringing together 40 delegates representing 31 National Federations from across Africa.This important annual gathering, which essentially reviews all assessments and achievements of African tennis through CAT over the previous year, was also an opportunity to provide a crucial platform for African tennis leaders to connect, collaborate, and strategize on tennis development across the continent.

2nd November 2024:
Visit to Maputo Tennis Club
CAT President Mr. Jean-Claude Talon, accompanied by Mozambique Tennis Federation (MTF) President Mr. Jonas Alberto Junior, along with several other federation presidents and delegates, visited the Maputo Tennis Club where the MTF is currently hosting an ITF World Tennis Tour (WTT) M25 event, offering a chance to witness tennis development in Mozambique.
CAT Executive Committee Meeting
A CAT Executive Committee meeting, attended by all board members took place between 2:15 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., with the main agenda being final preparations for the organization of the CAT AGM as well as the multiples zones’ meetings.
Zones’ Meetings:
Five Zones’ meetings leded by each zone’s President, with the participation of the delegates of the concerned national Federations, took place from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. These meetings allowed for focused discussions on regional priorities and challenges. Each Meeting was further enhanced by the participation of CAT President Jean-Claude Talon, ITF President David Haggerty, ITF Executive Director of Development, the Development Officers of the region and the CAT Secretary General. Together, they engaged in productive discussions, creating a collaborative atmosphere that fostered the exchange of ideas and the formation of strategic goals for the future of African tennis.
Official AGM Dinner and CAT Award Ceremony
Following the meetings, an official dinner hosted by Mozambique Tennis Federation wasorganized in honor of all the delegates to the AGM as well as the distinguished guests, during which various Awards were presented by the CAT and the ITF to national Federations that distinguished themselves in 2023 and 2024, recognizing excellence and notable contributions to the game. The CAT awards were presented to:
Federeçäo Angolina de Tennis For achievements and progress in tennis development in Africa.
Fédération Congolaise de Tennis For contributions to tennis growth in Central Africa.
Egyptian Tennis Federation For exceptional achievements in coaching education in Africa.
Tennis South Africa For global recognition in wheelchair tennis.
Fédération Royale Marocaine de Tennis For outstanding accomplishments at the youth level.
Additionally, three CAT Awards for Services to the Game were awarded to:
Mr. Issa Mboup (Senegal)
Mr. Nelson Chiwiko Amanze (Botswana)
Mr. Mohamed Bessaad (Algeria)
The ITF also took the occasion to honor several African nations for their development efforts, presenting ITF Development Awards to Congo, Côte d'Ivoire, Mozambique, Tanzania, and Tunisia. Tunisia also received the Bronze recognition of its National Training Centre.

CAT AGM
The AGM, which started at 9:00 am, was graced by ITF President Mr. David Haggerty and Mozambique's Secretary of State for Sports, Mr. Gilberto Mendes. After welcoming remarks from MTF President Mr. Jonas Alberto Junior, CAT President Mr. Jean-Claude Talon, ITF President Mr David Haggerty and Mozambique's Secretary of State for Sports, Mr. Gilberto Mendes, all agenda items of the AGM were addressed, including approving the minutes of the 2023 AGM, CAT’s 2023 financial statement presented by the CAT Treasurer Ifedayo Akindoju, the CAT President’s annual report presented by Mr. Jean-Claude Talon, an activity report by CAT’s General Secretary Hichem Riani, and an ITF development report by Mr. Luca Santilli and his staff, highlighting key milestones and plans for future development initiatives across the continent.
The AGM also provided a platform for delegates to hear inspiring success and practical experiences shared by the Egyptian Tennis Federation, presented by Mr. Walid Samy, General Secretary and Uganda Tennis Federation presented by Mr. Alvin Mboijana, General Secretary.
The AGM concluded with a collective pledge to continue building a thriving African tennis community and ensuring the sport’s sustained growth and success across the continent. The AGM ended at 2:00 am in an atmosphere of conviviality and fraternity, followed by a beautiful family picture. The CAT subsequently invited all participants to lunch at a local restaurant in Maputo.
